Reviews for the Kill West EP
Unsurprisingly (well, to me anyway!), the Kill West EP has gathered some great press and reviews since its release a few months ago. Here’s a summary of the kind of response it has been getting:-
“From the very off this release grabs your attention and pulls you in. Another great example of the current crop of South American psych bands. Fans of the Mary Chain, Loop, Spacemen 3, Pontiacs, The Myrrors and L.A. Hell Gang will enjoy this immensely”
Optical Sounds
“Kill West make the sound I imagine I would be hearing if I was cooler, went to clubs, did too much [miscellaneous drug], and ended up in a distorted wonderland, clutching at the walls, trying to make my way out into the crisp night air.Their caterwaul of chords, psychedelically pedalled-to-the-metal riffs and skeletal drums exist in one constant movement.”
Norman Records
“Kill West are a bunch of miscreants from Buenos Aires, Argentina and they play an intoxicating blend of garage, psych & drone, with a sprinkling of surf all drenched in reverb so thick it oozes out of the speakers….a distinct Black Rebel Motorclub Club vibe to it but with added twang and coolness – imagine if Dick Dale had dressed in black and was a badass mutherfucker and joined the Jesus And Mary Chain.”
Dayz of Purple and Orange
“Yes there’s a bit of surf rock going on in there, there’s a fair bit of doom drone, there’s a great sense of speed and there is reverberation, soooo much reverberation!…a really assured first step for both Kill West and Drone Rock Records, and I really look forward to hearing what they both come up with next.”
Backseat Mafia
“Argentinian noisemakers Kill West leave little to the imagination regarding their intentions on their self-titled debut EP, the first release for new Brighton label Drone Rock Records. While clearly in thrall to the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Spacemen 3 and A Place To Bury Strangers, there’s a furious bite and menace about the likes of ‘Lazy Eye’ and ‘Highway Mind’ which suggests they’re on a mission of their own making. Ones to watch for the future.”
