Product Description

The eighth release on Drone Rock Records is the debut vinyl album for Stupid Cosmonaut, an ambient-electronic-noise outfit from the North West of England who are tipped for big things in the modern psych/drone world. Algol provides the perfect soundtrack to the Soviet Bloc era science-fiction movies you can only dream about.

In the bands’ own words, “Algol, invites you to discorporate and allow your mind to be piloted, wordlessly, through stunning cosmic vistas of kaleidoscopic guitars and dark synths before being ferociously atomised by the crushing, untamed forces of deep space as its story unfolds. Myriad calculations hum in the computer brain of an automated space craft, it’s cargo, a lone passenger suspended in stasis, dreaming and oblivious as they navigate a celestial storm at the barycenter of Algol, The Demon Star.”

Algol will be a very limited run of just 300 copies (60 of these going directly to the band) pressed onto black and grey side a/side b coloured effect vinyl to match the hand drawn pencil drawings of the cover art by band-member Steven McNamara.

Stupid Cosmonaut

Formed in 2016 in the North West of England, Stupid Cosmonaut draw inspiration from science fiction and the cosmos to create beautifully haunting visions of a not too distant dystopian future. As the band has grown from 2 to 4 members so the sound has progressed and evolved. A vast reach of influences can be found from caustic, electronic hallucinations as chilled as Tangerine Dream and Klaus Shultz to more organic, heavier, crushing moments approaching Ufomammut and Neurosis territory.

Since formation in early 2016, Stupid Cosmonaut have shared the stage with acts such as Conjurer, Necro Deathmort, Scattered Purgatory, Lost Under Heaven, A Forest of Stars and Regardes Les Hommes Tombre. They have appeared live on BBC introducing, as well as receiving plays on Amazing Radio and Primal Radio. Previous material self released on cassette tape by the band has been well received with a feature in print publication ‘Wire’ magazine, as well as reviews on popular websites, Chromaticism, Echoes and Dust, Psych Insight, Dayz of Purple and Orange, Primal Radio, The Obelisk, Andrulian and Son of Marketing.
